1987 MERCEDES-BENZ 560 SERIES

This stunning 1987 Mercedes 560SL has had just ONE OWNER since new and is an exceptional example of a timeless classic. Please take the time to read my detailed description of the car and review the 325 photos provided.

I first became aware of this car almost 15 years ago when I still had a transport company along with the dealership, and I would bring this car from Ohio to Florida each year for season and return it each spring for Dr. Barry. Each year I would offer to buy it when he complained about how hot it was getting down here, and each year he would say "maybe next year". Then I got the call that he was ready to part it with it, and I was overjoyed!

This car has been in his care, along with some family members, since day one, and it is one of the most original, honest examples of a 560SL you will find. The car spent summers in Southern Ohio, and winters in Florida since day one, and has just over 40,000 ACTUAL MILES since new!

The Smoke Silver Metallic finish is remarkably clean and fresh thanks to garage storage in both states, and rare usage. There are less than a handful of small (3mm or so) chips under the front bumper, 1 on the passenger rocker, and two on the rear fascia panel under the back bumper. None are really obvious to passerby, and you only notice them when the car is on a lift with you underneath. Visible panels look amazing, and everything shines luminous and bright all around with no faded or sun-bleached areas to be found. Glass is exceptional, with no cracks, laminate issues, or chips. OEM wheels show beautifully without any sign of curb damage, and the tires only have 7000 miles on them and show like new without any dry rot, cracking or issues. Please be advised that the tires are from 2011, and if you plan to drive the car regularly rather than storing it in a collection you may want to replace them just from a time standpoint per government recommendations. Fog lamps, head lamps, tail lamps, and marker lights are all very clean, and function as they should. The color-matched factory hardtop is in exceptional condition as well, and shows no issues on the exterior, or on the interior headliner portion. Original canvas top is in amazing shape, and has no rips, tears, seam pulls, brittleness, holes, or stains to be found. The plastic windows in it are issue free and Barry would take a piece of mouse hair felt and place it in between the canvas and plastic each time he opened the top to keep the plastic looking fresh. It goes up and down easily without issue, and latches and seals extremely tight with no sign of wind noise or water intrusion to be found. Rubber seals/weatherstripping presents great with no dry rot or cracking and soft and pliable material all around. Chrome trim, emblems, and brightwork on the car all present beautifully, with only a tiny indent on the passenger side front bumper shown in the photos. As you can see in the 300 photos, the car presents incredibly well on the outside and would make any new owner happy.

Inside, the car continues to show the level of care Dr. Barry gave his Mercedes at every opportunity. Brazil Brown upholstery shows like new throughout, with new OEM seat covers specially ordered from Mercedes installed by the Mercedes-Benz dealer in 2020. There are no signs of damage or excess wear to the leather throughout the car, and the carpeting, headliner, kick panels, door panels, pillar posts, dash, console, and rear cubby all present beautifully as seen in the photos. Everything works the way it should, including the power top, dual heated power exterior mirrors, Automatic antennae, Automatic climate control (which was fully flushed and converted to R134a in July 2024), Electronic Cruise Control, Power windows, Power locks, and rear defrost. All buttons and switchgear are in exceptional condition appearance-wise as well, with no fading or worn areas. All functions of the heating and cooling system work as they should, as do the windshield wipers and lighting throughout the interior. The BECKER radio was upgraded in 2020 by the Mercedes dealer to a modern unit with Bluetooth, CD, and built-in amplifier to help modernize the audio system and add the convenience of cell phone connectivity. It works perfectly and is a clean and professionally installed unit. Wood trim throughout the interior presents beautifully, with no cracks, chips, or issues evident. All gauges are full functional, and the speedometer is only off GPS verified speed by 1mph. All dash lights/dummy lights work as they should, and there are no indicators that anything is wrong with the car at this time. The inside is just as clean and tidy as the exterior and really shows how well this car has been cared for its whole life.

Mechanically, the car feels incredible to drive and operate. It starts with the turn of a key, idles cleanly, and is ready to perform quickly. Snick the transmission into gear and the car accelerates strongly with no stutter or stumble. Power comes on quickly, and each gear shifts smooth and crisp to the next until you hit cruising speed. On the freeway, the car feels like a much bigger machine as it glides down the road without any jarring, noises, or issues. I have had the car at 90mph without any issues, and it easily would've given more. Braking is smooth and sure, and the car scrubs off speed without any chatter, pedal modulation, or pulling. It tracks straight and true on the highway and doesn't exhibit any signs of misalignment. Compared to today's convertibles, it is surprisingly quiet with the top up or down, and the functional windscreen keeps buffeting of the driver and passenger to a minimum on road trips. The best way to describe the ride, handling and performance of this car would be to say it feels like it is 1988 and you are test-driving a dealer demonstrator. It really is that nice.

Underneath, the car presents like a clean one owner 560 should that never spent a minute in the snowbelt. No rust, no rot, no bubbles, and no goopy undercoating gunk sprayed everywhere. The only thing you see is a bare chassis and clean metal. Suspension components have been maintained as well as the rest of the car and there are no squeaks, rattles, looseness or issues with the ride and handling components of this car. No leaks are evident, and no signs of any issues have been exhibited in my past 6 months of driving and enjoying the car almost every weekend. I chased this Benz for years, have enjoyed my tenure with it, and am ready to pass the torch to what will be the 2nd documented owner from new. It comes to you with multiple keys, a full set of original books and records, clean CarFAX and AutoCheck histories, Hardtop, and everything you see in the photos with the car.
