SELLER NOTES

This 1965 Shelby Cobra tribute was built by the prior owner between 2009 and 2014 and comes to you with a fully inspected and State issued FLORIDA VIN and title as a 2014 model year.

To start, a new Lone Star chassis and body was selected and shipped to Florida. A brand-new crate 302 short block engine was ordered and built up with Edelbrock intake, Edelbrock 600cfm carb, Edelbrock heads, custom cut headers, hi-flow exhaust system, Cobra valve covers and intake, Speedmaster high-volume waterpump, and more. A new C4 transmission was fit to a FORD 9-inch rear with TrueTrac and 3.50 gears that is shifted via a Clayton ratchet shifter with lock-out. Once the car was set up and test driven, it was all pulled apart again for paint and interior.

The finish on the car is clean and shows really well but does have some minor blemishes like stone chips and small scuffs which I highlighted in the photos below. Nothing crazy, and no cracks in the fiberglass or anything, just some marks from being driven 3700 miles and actually seeing the road! Windshield frame is clean and neat with light patina in the glass, and there is no top, tonneau, or side curtains that accompany the car. The Lone Star body is very nicely constructed, and fit and construction are about what you find on most Factory Five or Shell Valley reproductions. It looks the part, and people love it. Chrome and trim on the car is clean and neat, and it has a very minimalist look that is reminiscent of the real Cobra's back int he early days.

The interior is spartan and done for practicality rather than a nod to tradition. Materials are clean and presentable, but it is no a $20,000 custom upholstered look that most replicas seem to adopt these days. As you can see in the photos, it has everything you need to get it, be comfortable, and drive. All of the gauges are in working order, and the car starts, runs, drives, and stops beautifully. Trunk has carpet, a prop rod, and a recent battery which is held by a bungee strap system very solidly. There is also a key battery shut-off which is nice when storing the car.

Power is quick and strong off the line with a fast 1-2 shift that lets each redlight put a smile on your face. The 3.50 gearing isn't going to have you travelling across country at 90mph, but you can cruise all afternoon at 70 ticking about 3k RPM. Handling is raw and tactile, and the car gives you feedback through the wheel that lets you know where you stand with it. Very confidence inspiring, especially in the twisties. Braking is sold and sure, with an almost 1-to-1 feel from the pedal thanks to balanced brakes. No chatter or darting, and it slows quickly given its small size and weight.

This is a super fun car to drive, especially if the thought of rowing through 5-speeds every day in in-town traffic sounds like a horrible way to live. The auto makes it more like a Hot Rod, and the car is a blast to cruise in. It isn't a $125k Superformance or Backdraft built car, but it is a solid, reliable and PROVEN 3,700 mile Cobra that can be had for about the same price as a Nissan Altima, and that should matter for something!
